The MSS by ERA also serves as a Vehicle Tracking System (VTS). The only additional equipment (hardware) needed is a vehicle transmitting unit – Squid®. It can be mounted on the roof of the vehicle either permanently (fix holders) or temporarily (magnetic holders). The Squid® transmits 1090MHz extended squitter message (DF18 format per ICAO, Annex10 Vol. IV), therefore ADS-B technology can be used for its surveillance.
ERA will, according to the requirements, provided eight (8) of its mature, proven and very widely deployed SQUID® vehicle mounted transmitters for Sulaimaniya Intl. Airport.
